Combining modern and classic style

Modern classics have been reigning for years, both in Lithuania and around the world. Classic wall and ceiling decoration details are often used to create this combination. Designer Ekaterina Kazmazovskaja and Inga Eimontienė, the manager of Classic Line Decor, which sells classic interior details, talk about the timeless combination of classic details with modernity.

Light and cozy

The combination of modern and classic styles creates an impression of lightness and, at the same time, coziness. “Customers are increasingly choosing an uncluttered modern classic interior style. This style is characterized by a combination of classic and contemporary elements and fashionable trends. Comfortable and modern furniture finds its place in such interiors, while walls, ceilings, and floors are decorated with classic details,” says designer Jekaterina Kazmazovskaja.

I. Eimontienė, who has been selling classic decorative details for more than a decade, says that customers most often choose ceiling moldings with a moderate relief for ceiling decoration. Those who want more expression decorate their ceilings with moldings with ornaments. “These are usually decorative details with plant motifs such as acanthus leaves or royal lilies. Ceiling moldings with the classic egg and dart ornament are also very popular,” says I. Eimontienė.

Another popular choice among customers is wall decoration. “Wall moldings give a unique shape, and the relief of the moldings on the walls creates a play of shadows, giving the space a distinctive character. The Classic Line Decor range includes details that enrich the interior,” says I. Eimontienė.

There is no single formula

The final look depends on how much classicism the client wants to bring into their home: some limit themselves to skirting boards and decorated ceilings, while others choose more complex wall decoration. Over time, interiors are completed by adding more classic details. As designer J. Kazmazovskaya says, the overall look will always depend on the client’s wishes and taste: “each client has a unique vision of what they would like, so there is no specific advice on how many classic details there should be and how many modern ones.” According to the designer, the choice also depends on the person’s personality – some want a very subtle classic feel, so they limit themselves to skirting boards and ceiling decoration. Others need more classic details – wall paneling and patterned decoration are popular in such interiors. In any case, such an interior can always be complemented by a classic-style chest of drawers or mirror.

Scandinavians and modern classics

Modern classics are popular all over the world, this is nothing new. True, the Nordic countries are often identified with cold minimalist modernity, but trends are changing. According to J. Kazmazovskaya, Scandinavians are furnishing their homes with more and more classical solutions and choosing ornate decorative strips. “At one time, the Scandinavian loft style was popular with us, but it did not catch on. People want comfort, and Scandinavians themselves very often use classical details in their interiors,” says the designer.

Harmony and aesthetics

Classic wall and ceiling decoration details create a long-lasting, complete interior. People who want to furnish their homes for a longer period, even for more than one decade, choose modern classics, because this style is timeless, and if desired, it can be supplemented, thus bringing changes to the interior. As the manager of “Classic Line Decor” says, the combination of modernity and classics fulfills the need for aesthetics, harmony, brings a sense of fullness and completeness. According to I. Eimontienė, combining these two styles turns to time-tested values, a sense of constancy and eternity.
