When should ceiling and wall strips and skirting boards be glued? Decorating masters advise

One of the most challenging and enjoyable tasks is ensuring the comfort of your surroundings. If you are making changes to your home and have decided to undertake the finishing work yourself, we would like to share some important advice on what to consider when finishing walls and ceilings. The most frequently asked question is: when and how should ceiling moldings be installed? Should the walls be painted/wallpapered before installing the moldings, or should this be done after installing the moldings? When should baseboards be installed? Here is what is most important.

  • First, prepare the walls and ceilings: they must be plastered and dust-free, completely clean, dry, and covered with a first coat of primer.
  • Once the walls and ceilings are ready, the ceiling moldings can be installed. After gluing the moldings, caulk the edges that touch the walls and ceiling, and fill in the micro-gaps at the joints between the moldings.
  • The third step is to paint the ceiling. The ceiling moldings are painted together with the ceiling.
  • Once you have finished finishing the ceiling, move on to the walls: hang wallpaper and paint the walls.
  • Once you have finished painting or wallpapering the walls, install the flooring.
  • The last job is to glue and paint the baseboards on the already installed flooring.

After carefully finishing the walls and ceiling, you will soon notice how your home has changed. Home decor details such as ceiling and wall moldings and baseboards can transform a room beyond recognition, decorating it and giving it a sense of completeness and uniqueness. And it’s not difficult to do the finishing work yourself: once you know the entire ceiling finishing process, you can easily install moldings and baseboards yourself.
