The accent of the house is the expressive hallway interior
How much attention should be paid to the interior design of a hallway? It’s a matter of taste, but this space should not be overlooked, as the hallway is the calling card of your home. Designer Beata talks about hallway decoration, lighting, and furniture choices.
Hallway decoration depends on the characteristics of the space itself: in some cases, this room has windows and is quite spacious, while in others, the hallway is windowless, so the impression of space is created by decorative details and lighting. “If it is a really large hallway, we can decorate it quite lavishly: with wall decorations, paintings, mirrors,” says Beata. When talking about smaller rooms, the designer emphasizes that by using the right details and lighting, it is possible to create the illusion that the room is larger. Mirrors are perfect for this.
Relief trim strips are used for wall decoration, usually to create a classic style, but various frames also go well with modern, luxurious, or plant-themed interiors. “Decorative wall and ceiling moldings can be used to create a variety of transitions from walls to ceilings, combined with LED lighting,” says Beata.
Corridor ceilings can be decorated with rosettes, strips, and other accessories. A corridor is a passageway, so it should have several lighting modes: night light, which is not irritating to the eyes, slightly brighter accent lighting, and main lighting. One light bulb will definitely not be enough in a corridor. Its lighting is created more on the walls. Wall lamps, mirrors with bra or more expressive bra on the wall with a frame, LED lighting, recessed lights that can be combined with cornices, and you can also install illuminated skirting boards,” says Beata, discussing corridor lighting options. Decorative ceiling strips with hidden LED lighting create the impression of higher ceilings and the illusion of a more spacious room.
“The hallway is a connecting, transitional area of the home where aesthetics are important, and the finish should be expressive but close to the walls,” says the designer. In the hallway, we also try to make the furniture integrated: a small armchair, paintings that enliven the interior, highlighted with decorative strips. If the hallway is larger, you can integrate a wardrobe into it, which can also be decorated, choosing an option with a mirror. “It is currently fashionable to ‘hide’ the hallway door to make the room look more cohesive: relief trim strips and other accessories are also used to decorate them,” says Beata.
